Another OS

The Tizen Association unveils its new UX and SDK at the Tizen Developer Summit scheduled for July 30 and 31 in Bengaluru, India.

The new UX is expected to provide more sophisticated and convenient icons, OS design and control. Much attention is paid to whether Samsung Electronics, which is focusing on investment in UX these days, will combine its non-built-in Android features adopted in its Galaxy phones with the Tizen. Also, experts are expecting Tizen 3.0 to be unveiled in its entirety at the conference in that the new SDK is to be opened to the public.

The conference is likely to accelerate the expansion of the Tizen ecosystem. The Tizen Association is currently focusing on the TV, IoT, and wearable device markets, which have been relatively less penetrated by Apple and Google. Samsung Electronics is planning to use the Tizen in the Gear A, its smart watch to be released late this year, and raise the ratio of Tizen TVs in its total supply to more than 50 percent. At the same time, the operating system is expected to be found in refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and robot cleaners.

Samsung Electronics’ new Tizen phone, the Z3, makes its debut in the second quarter of this year, too. Samsung recently opened Tizen app stores in 180 countries around the world, so as to attract more applications and developers ahead of the debut of the new model.
