Athletes Village Mayor Lim Duck-ho welcomes journalists to the Gwangju Universiade Athletes Village on June 23.

Gwangju Universiade Athletes Village opened its facilities prepared for the international multi-sport event to media on June 23, the Gwangju 2015 Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) said.

The official opening day of the village is June 26.

The Athletes Village Media Day event started with the performance of Fusion Korean Traditional Music at the Flag Plaza, GUOC said. Journalists toured the Main Information Center (MIC) and Polyclinic to make sure that all supplies are well-prepared for the athletes by June 26.

A buffet-type hall provides a variety of foods including western, eastern, vegetarian, and halal cuisine.

Heat sensors are installed at the gates, the entrance of AV dining hall, and the Polyclinic in order to check the health of athletes for symptoms of MERS-CoV, GUOC said. Participants who are suspected to have the virus will be sent to triage for a thorough scan, and those who are infected with MERS-CoV will be sent to the hospital for quarantine.

By June 24, 13,334 delegates from over 145 countries have confirmed their participation for the Universiade. Approximately 2,363 more athletes from 30 countries have registered to attend the Gwangju Universiade since June 3.
