SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won visited China to attend the Boao Forum, which is sometimes called the Asian version of the Davos Forum.

According to industry sources on March 28, Chairman Chey will participate in the Boao Forum held in Boao, Hainan Province of China for four days from March 28 to 31. On March 29, the second day of the event, Chairman Chey is scheduled to participate in the company’s ESG performance session as a panelist with Na Seok-kwon, head of the SK Social Value Research Institute.

“One of the serious problems facing countries around the world is environmental issues based on relationships between the earth and mankind,” Chairman Chey said in an interview with the Boao Forum Journal held before the forum. “Now is the time for companies to have constructive dialogues with the earth. Thus, we signed up for the RE100, a campaign to replace 100 percent of our corporate electricity use with renewable energy and set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 200 million tons by 2030.”

Chairman Chey has been attending the Boao Forum as an opening ceremony speaker or debater almost every year since 2006, barring the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. He will attend the event as a forum director this year. In addition, SK Group has supported the Boao Forum from its beginning.

Meanwhile, the forum will be also studded with VIPs from countries around the world including Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Côte d’Ivoire Prime Minister Jérôme Achi, and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. The Korean representation at the forum will include Chey; Ban Ki-moon, chairman of the Boao Forum and former UN Secretary-General; and Oh Young-hoon, governor of Jeju.
