According to industry sources and foreign media on June 19, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Maersk signed a letter of intent (LOI) to build 14000 TEU container ships.

Including the option to build an additional seven ships, it is a deal to build a total of 16 container ships worth nearly US$2 billion (2.21 trillion won).

The delivery will start in order at the beginning of 2017. The company won the deal to build four more ships earlier than previously known.

HHI also won an order from France’s CMA CGM to build six 14,000 TEU ships for the price of US$700 million (775.6 billion won) last month.
