The heads of the top five South Korean business groups are scheduled to visit Japan on March 16 together with President Yoon Suk-yeol. There, a round table of the Federation of Korean Industries and the Japan Business Federation is scheduled for March 17.

The South Korean and Japanese governments recently agreed to set up a joint fund regarding compensation for wartime forced labor victims. The two federations are expected to discuss the matter in depth at the round table.

Attention is focusing on whether Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Nippon Steel, two of the exploiters, will join the fund. Their official stance is to provide no compensation according to the 1965 agreement the two governments concluded regarding the matter.
