SK ecoplant and POSCO announced on March 7 that they had obtained a basic design certification on the K-Floater, an offshore wind power floating model developed in Korea, from DNV, a Norwegian classification society. The certificate presentation ceremony was held at the SK ecoplant headquarters in the Jongno district of Seoul.

The K-Floater developed this time is a 10MW class semi-submersible floating model. According to meteorological statistics, it can withstand a typhoon of about 40 meters per second which occurs once every 50 years on average. DNV highly recognized the K-Floater for maintaining structural and functional stability even in extreme sea environments such as 2 m/s currents and 10-meter-high waves.

SK ecoplant’s subsidiary SK oceanplant plans to mass-produce and supply the K-Floater at a new offshore wind power structure production plant in Goseong, South Gyeongsang Province.

SK ecoplant is considering preferentially applying K-floating bodies to offshore wind power projects such as a 136 MW offshore wind power generation project in the southeast coast. In addition, it will actively target offshore wind power projects in Korea being pursued by global offshore wind power companies such as Green Investment Group (GIG), TotalEnergies, Shell, and Equinor.
