As the second generation model of the SM3, which was released by Renault Samsung in 2009, sees a continuous increase in exports, it is having a positive effect on the better performance of the company.
According to Renault Samsung on June 10, its exports in May climbed up 101.1 percent to 12,332 units from a year earlier. The Nissan Rogue, which is manufactured under consignment by Renault-Nissan Alliance, is the main contributor behind export increase. The new model of the Nissan Rogue exported 9,900 units last month, accounting for the most export volume of Renault Samsung.
However, industry sources say that the Rogue cannot be considered Renault Samsung’s model, as it is a global model, not self-developed by Renault Samsung.
Also, another contributor to the export increase of Renault Samsung is its self-developed model SM3, known as the Fluence in the global market. The SM3's increased popularity in China and Mexico also helps to increase total exports by 1,798 units, a 67.4 percent increase from a year ago.
In particular, a total of 4,962 units of the SM3 – 1,360 units to China, 1,426 units to Mexico, and 1,567 units to Saudi Arabia – have been exported as of May due to its high popularity in those countries.
