A New Iconic Landmark of Dubai

Atlantis The Royal, a new iconic landmark of Dubai

Ssangyong E&C announced on Feb. 21 that it successfully completed the construction of the Atlantis The Royal Hotel in Dubai in mid-February after about 80 months of construction. The Korean builder received the order from Dubai, the most populous city in the UAE, in December 2015 and began the construction of the hotel in July 2016.

Atlantis The Royal is a mega project involving the construction of three 44-story super-luxury hotel buildings with 791 rooms and three luxurious 39-story residence buildings with 231 apartments on the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.

The mega project cost a total of US1.254 billion. The edifices are characterized by a total of 94 swimming pools, including a super-luxury pool that is one step higher than MBS’s iconic infinity pool.

In addition, all the rooms can command a fine view of Dubai’s splendid Gulf Coast. The hotel is the only one in the world with a 520-square-meter signature penthouse room with a private infinity pool.

This project was ordered by the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), a world-class sovereign wealth fund that was the largest shareholder of SsangYong E&C in 2015. Ssangyong E&C jointly won the order with Besix of Belgium in December 2015 as a lead manager.

Atlantis The Royal is curved in an S shape when seen from the sky, but it boasts an atypical exterior that looks like a pile of Lego blocks. The overwhelming appearance of this hotel is a unique structure that cannot be found in the world. Many experts expected that when this hotel is completed, it will become another world landmark along with Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
