Secured First Probiotic Strain

Kolmar BNH announced on Feb. 20 that it has isolated lactic acid bacterium lactiplantibacillusplantarum SKO-001 from an Angelica root, an herbal medicine, and confirmed its effectiveness in helping to reduce body fat.

Angelica roots are used as the main ingredient for Hemo HIM, a health functional food that boosts immune functions. The results of this study were published in the European Journal of Nutrition, an SCI journal. With this development, Kolmar BNH has secured its first probiotic strain.

Kolmar BNH’s Food Science Research Center confirmed through an in vivo experiment that body weight and fat mass decreased significantly when SKO-001 was consumed for 12 weeks.

SKO-001 promotes fat-burning proteins, expands energy consumption, and inhibits fat cell differentiation factors that induce obesity. In addition, the study also found the effects of improving fatty liver by suppressing fat accumulation in liver tissue with SKO-001.

Based on the results of this study, Kolmar BNH will develop individually approved ingredients with body fat reduction functions through human body tests. In addition, it aims to develop a fusion ingredient that mixes lactic acid bacteria with ingredients for health functional foods.
