Including a 10% Salary Increase
The Samsung Group Labor Union Alliance, which consists of 11 labor organizations at the group's affiliates, announced a 10-point demand for 2023 on Feb. 7.
The alliance is affiliated with the Federation of Korean Metalworkers' Trade Unions (FKMTU), which is under the umbrella of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU).
The 11 labor organizations include the Samsung Display Union and the Samsung SDI Ulsan Union.
The alliance's joint demand for this year includes a 10 percent increase in basic wages, the abolition of the wage peak system, the extension of the retirement age from 60 to 65, and payment of 20 percent of the pre-tax profit of each company as an overall performance incentive (OPI).
The number of the alliance's demands increased from five in 2021 to six in 2022 and 10 in 2023.
The new demands included having an exclusive meeting with Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong, participation in collective bargaining by CEOs and equal treatment between parent companies and their subsidiaries.
Apart from the alliance, the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union is also demanding various types of benefits in this year's wage and welfare negotiations.
