Part of Korea’s Official Development Assistance

Mangrove planting event in Ninh Binh, Vietnam

The Korea Forest Service and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam held a mangrove planting event in the Red River Delta area in Ninh Bình.

The afforestation event was held as a part of South Korea’s official development assistance in Vietnam. In this ODA project, aquaculture is applied to mangrove swamps so that residents in the area can increase their income. In September 2021, the project was selected by the OECD as an innovative assistance model.

At present, the South Korean and Vietnamese governments are stepping up their cooperation so that the afforestation can become highly successful. In addition, they are planning to expand the cooperation for carbon reduction to cover pilot REDD+ projects.
