Hanwha Aerospace and ROMARM signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Romania on Feb. 6. The purpose of the MOU is to discuss bilateral cooperation as to weapons system supply from Hanwha Aerospace to the state-owned defense company.

Romania is planning to introduce new weapons by increasing its defense budget. According to military experts, many of its tanks are old, towed artillery systems are still in wide use, and it is highly interested in South Korean weapon systems, including Hanwha Aerospace’s K9 self-propelled howitzer and Redback IFV.

In August last year, the South Korean company signed a 3.2 trillion won contract to export 212 K9s to Poland. The export is underway and the weapon is in operation in a total of nine countries, including Poland, Norway, Finland and Estonia.
