Samsung's Galaxy

The early sales volume of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge was not low, but it did not reach the level of the iPhone 6 and 6+.

According to Hong Kong-based market research firm Counterpoint Research on June 3, after their release on April 10, 6 million units of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were sold worldwide during that month.

The sales volume of the Galaxy S6 series made up 21 percent of Samsung Electronics' total sales in smartphones in April. The Galaxy S5 accounted for 16 percent of the total during the same period last year.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were in third and fourth place each in the sales volume rankings. The top and runner-up spots were taken by the iPhone 6 and 6+, which shows that the two models are still popular six months after the initial release.

The Wall Street Journal said, "Samsung Electronics’ flagship Galaxy S6 smartphone has been modestly outselling its predecessor, but is struggling to keep up with Apple’s strong-selling iPhone 6."

Meanwhile, Counterpoint Research predicts that more than 50 million units of the Galaxy S6 series will be sold this year, thereby achieving the highest-ever annual sales figure for Samsung phones. The previous record was 45 units set by the Galaxy S4.
