Operating an Iberico Farm in Spain

Kim Dong-seon, head of Hanwha Galleria’ Strategy Division

Kim Dong-seon, the third son of Hanwha Group chairman Kim Seung-yeon and head of Hanwha Solutions Galleria Department, is hooked on Iberico. Last month, he posted several pictures of Iberico pigs with the caption, "Happy and healthy purebred Iberico pigs eating acorns."

Kim visited an Iberico farm in the Sierra Morena National Park in northern Seville, Spain, right after attending the Davos Forum in Switzerland in January, said Hanwha Hotels & Resorts on Feb. 2.

The farm that Kim visited is directly run by Hanwha. Hanwha is the only Korean company that directly manages an Iberico farm in Spain. Galleria has decided to introduce a variety of products using premium Iberico raised here from the second half of the year.

The pigs raised in the Hanwha farm in Spain are 100 percent purebred Iberico black pigs. They belong to the top grade Bellota (acorns in Spanish). Among Iberico pigs raised in Spain, the Bellota grade only accounts for 7 percent of the total. Bellota grade Iberico pigs must be certified by the Iberico Pork Association in Spain (ASICI).

Kim is set to launch the famous American hamburger brand “Five Guys” in Korea in the first half of this year. He is determined to discover future growth drivers for Hanwha's distribution and service divisions by touring various overseas sites.
