Former Financial Services Commission Chairman Yim Jong-ryong became the sole candidate for the next chairman of Woori Financial Group on Feb. 3.

“I will do my best for organizational innovation and new corporate culture so that the group can win even more trust from market participants,” he said after his selection.

The direction of his reform is likely to be clarified soon, with one-third of 12 key executive positions vacant in the holding company of the group and the number slated to reach seven at the end of this month. In addition, nine out of 20 key executive positions are currently vacant in Woori Bank and the CEO position will be vacant at the end of this month in 10 out of the group’s 14 subsidiaries, including Woori Card, Aju Capital, Woori Investment Bank and Woori Asset Trust.

He is expected to become the final candidate at the regular board meeting scheduled for this month and become the new head of the group through the regular shareholder meeting scheduled for March 24. The term of office is three years.
