Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) has signed an agreement with the UAE’s Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. (ENEC) to expand nuclear power for sustainable energy security and strengthen cooperation in developing net-zero technologies.

On Jan. 15 (local time), KEPCO CEO Cheong Seung-il, who accompanied Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s state visit to the UAE, signed a strategic cooperation agreement to accelerate “net-zero goals” with ENEC president Mohamed Al Hammadi at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi in the presence of the heads of state of the two countries. They will share their capabilities and wisdom for the actual implementation of the agreement.

Under the agreement, the two sides will deepen their nuclear cooperation relationship by expanding nuclear power programs between the two countries and jointly entering the global nuclear power plant market.

In addition, by utilizing KEPCO's strengths as a global power company, they decided to expand cooperation in new fields such as joint research and development of super grids to connect power grids with neighboring countries.

KEPCO has solidified its partnership with ENEC through the successful construction of the Barakah nuclear power plant over the past 10 years. It played a leading role in elevating a relationship between Korea and the UAE to a special strategic partnership.
