Hyosung has unveiled its high-performance polyketone material to the global market. The company is the first to commercialize it.

Hyosung said on May 21 that it participated in CHINAPLAS 2015, the largest plastic industry exhibition in Asia, kicked off in Guangzhou on May 20 to showcase its self-developed polyketone. The group is making the best use of the exhibition as the place to market the new material. It said that it will actively inform the world of the birth of polyketone in the global plastics market, and seek new business relationships.

As a new eco-friendly polymer material, polyketone is made of olefin and carbon monoxide, the main culprit of air pollution. Its impact strength and chemical resistance are at least 2.3 times and 30 percent higher than those of nylon, respectively.

Also, polyketone’s wear resistance is 14 times higher than that of polyacetal, which is the most rigid high-polymer material. Hyosung is now annually producing 1,000 tons of polyketone after building its pilot plant in Ulsan in 2012. It is also currently constructing another facility for its commercialization that will produce another 50,000 tons of the material on annual basis upon completion.
