One of the Worst Years
KOSPI fell 1.93 percent to 2,236.4 points on Dec. 29, this year’s final session. This year, the index fell 24.89 percent from 2,977.65. This year’s lowest point, 2,155.49, was recorded in September.
The aggregate value of the stock market was 1,767 trillion won at the end of last year but decreased 19.8 percent this year. When it comes to annual growth, the market came in 25th out of the 27 including the G20 stock markets.
The average daily trading value dropped from 15.4 trillion won to nine trillion won. The annual trading volume also dropped more than 40 percent. This year, net selling from foreign and institutional investors amounted to 6.8 trillion won and 11.3 trillion won, respectively. Individual investors recorded a net buy of 16.6 trillion won, the same position for the third consecutive year.
