Joining Competition for Czech NPP Project

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) submitted its bid to the Czech government on Nov. 28 regarding the nuclear power plant construction project in Dukovany.

The project is to build a PWR nuclear power plant and KHNP will compete with Westinghouse Electric Company and EDF. The contract will be signed in 2024, the construction will start in 2029, and the commercial operation is scheduled to start in 2036. The number of nuclear power plants there may be increased to four.

South Korea’s proposal is an APR1000 reactor. According to KHNP, the reactor is one of the most advanced in terms of design, safety, security, etc. KHNP has tried for years to win the project. The Czech government announced the project in 2016, and then KHNP formed a task force for the project and the bid of the task force was completed in 16 months.
