Boosts GM Korea's Overall Sales

GM Korea officials take the wraps off the Chevrolet Trailblazer at Chroma of Paradise City, Incheon of Korea, in 2020.

Chevrolet’s Trailblazer, a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) produced by GM Korea, was the No. 1 passenger car exported from Korea in October.

The Trailblazer, along with its sibling model Buick Encore GX, sold 17,958 units overseas in the month of October, claiming first place among passenger cars exported from Korea, said the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) on Nov. 29. The statistics did not include the cars manufactured by Korean automakers such as Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia at overseas factories.

Trailblazer’s strong export performance boosted GM Korea’s domestic sales. The carmaker sold a total of 26,811 cars in October, a 290 percent increase compared to the same month of 2021. It recorded a year-on-year increase for four consecutive months. Domestic sales amounted to 4,070 units, up 63 percent from a year ago, while exports accounted for 22,471 units, up 419 percent compared to the same period of last year.

In particular, GM Korea’s exports hit a new record high in 2022, continuing to climb for seven months in a row. Chevrolet also ranked at the top of the best-selling brand in the Korean imported car market for three consecutive months. The KAIDA said that Chevrolet sold 1,586 units, the highest monthly sales of 2022, in the Korean market in October, taking 4th place among the best-selling foreign car brands in Korea.
