Marking the 80th anniversary of its establishment on May 25, Kumho Electric is strengthening its ability, looking ahead another 80 years in the future.

The company was founded in Seoul in 1935 as water gauge manufacturer Chungyup Manufacturing Co. After obtaining the first KS mark on white electric bulbs in the industry in 1963, Kumho Electric led the domestic lighting market from the late 1980s to early 1990s.

Since then, the company focused on promoting cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) and light-emitting diode (LED) lamps. At the end of 2008, Kumho Electric developed and commercialized the compatible stabilizer LED tube for the first time in the world and completed the vertical systemization of LEDs in 2009.

Also, the company has started mass production of the metal mesh touch sensor for ultra-fine mega touch screen panels (TSP), which are used in smartphones, tablets, electronic bulletin boards for education, smart TVs, and all-in-one PCs, from last year. For its touch sensor for TSP, the company raised the reaction speed by reducing the size to a new minimum thickness of 3µm and the cost efficiency by using copper.

As the daytime running lamp (DRL) is required in all vehicles produced in the country from July, the company has completed the development of a daytime running lamp for vehicles through its subsidiary Kumho HT from 2012 with the aim of market dominance in advance, and is using it in LED and general lamps.

Kumho Electric’s smart glass, VISTRA, is also another next-generation promotion business. Without any additional visual equipment, it can play videos and deliver information on its own glass sheet. Also, it can dynamically express visual information by individually controlling each LED lamp.
