Daewoo Engineering & Construction (E&C) announced on Nov. 24 that Chung Won-joo, vice chairman of Jungheung Group, the builder's parent company, paid a courtesy visit to Kenyan President William Ruto and exchanged opinions on nuclear power generation, renewable energy and infrastructure development projects.

During a meeting with President Ruto at Lotte Hotel Seoul, Chung introduced Daewoo E&C’s long history and world-class technology, especially the trust and recognition it has earned in the African market.

Chung said that Daewoo E&C is interested in Kenya’s infrastructure development, adding that the Korean builder is evolving from an EPC contractor into a developer.

“I hope that President Ruto’s interest in and support for Daewoo E&C will continue, and look forward to Daewoo E&C's participation in Kenya’s major projects in the future,” Chung said.

“There are many opportunities for Daewoo E&C to participate in energy infrastructure, including renewable energy, nuclear power, and hydroelectric power generation, and public housing and medical infrastructure,” President Ruto said.

President Ruto flew into Korea on Nov. 22, as the first head of Kenya to visit Korea in 32 years. He discussed cooperation in energy, defense and nuclear power at a summit with Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Nov. 23. The summit is expected to boost relationships between the two countries and provide more opportunities for Korean construction companies in Kenyan infrastructure development projects in the future.
