Including South Korea

Saudi Aramco is discussing blue hydrogen supply with multiple Asian countries, including Korea.

Bloomberg reported on Nov. 14 that Saudi Aramco is discussing blue hydrogen supply with multiple Asian countries, and South Korea and Japan are the two currently showing the most progress.

According to the report, Saudi Aramco decided to invest at least US$100 billion in the Jafurah gas field in order to procure gas for blue hydrogen production. “The company, which is currently supplying blue hydrogen for testing purposes only, is likely to start from transporting blue hydrogen in the form of ammonia before large-scale export to start in 2027,” it said.

Bloomberg mentioned that Saudi Aramco’s discussions with South Korea and Japan may be related to cooperation in the process of LPG import from the company and blue hydrogen production based on it.

South Korean companies, including Hyundai Heavy Industries and S-Oil, signed related MOUs with Saudi Aramco last year and this year. Recently, Lotte Fine Chemical signed blue ammonia import contracts with Sabic and Ma'aden, Saudi Aramco subsidiaries.
