Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on Nov. 11 that it has begun a site assessment for a new nuclear power plant project in Poland.

KHNP formed a site survey team with related companies, including KEPCO Engineering & Construction. The team visited Pątnów Nuclear Power Plant, the site of a new nuclear power plant, on Nov. 9 (local time). The team assessed the suitability of the site, including its cooling capacity, power grid, and environment, together with working-level officials from ZE PAK, a Polish private power generation company which is promoting the new nuclear power plant project, and met with ZE PAK Chairman Zygmunt Solorz to discuss business cooperation plans.

In addition, KHNP organized a APR1400 supplier symposium at Sheraton Grand Hotel in Warsaw, Poland on Nov. 10 with the participation of some 200 officials from the Polish government, corporations, and local suppliers for close cooperation between companies of the two countries on new government- and private sector-led nuclear power plant projects currently in progress in Poland.

The symposium was jointely organized by KHNP, the Korea Nuclear Association for International Cooperation (KNA), and IGEOS, which is a self-governing, economic organization representing Polish power industry enterprises.

Companies that constitute the Team Korea consortium, including KEPCO E&C, KEPCO Nuclear Fuel, KEPCO KPS, Doosan Enebility, and Daewoo E&C, participated in this event to introduce the Korean nuclear power plant industry’s technological excellence and localization strategy.

In addition, the event offered B2B meetings among companies. Companies related to nuclear power plants in Korea and Poland discussed areas of mutual cooperation and enjoyed opportunities to expand human resources exchanges. At the event, Team Korea signed an MOU on mutual cooperation in equipment supply and operation maintenance with 13 Polish suppliers including Zarmen, APS Energia, Energomontaz, Ecol, and Finow, agreeing to strengthen cooperation among companies for new nuclear power plant projects in Poland.

On Nov. 7 and 8, KHNP explained the current status of the project and had an in-depth discussion on business cooperation plans at 12 local companies in the Czech Republic that are cooperating with KHNP in a new nuclear power plant project in the Czech Republic.
