Details Kept Under Wraps

Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun and Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong have recently met in Seoul. The content of the meeting is yet to be made public.

The two companies have maintained their partnership since 2012. According to experts, the two CEOs are likely to have discussed cooperation in the field of future technology.

Boeing Korea has an engineering and technology center located in Seoul, and it is working on advanced aviation electronics, smart manufacturing, unmanned aviation, smart cabin technology, etc. In this regard, they may have discussed unmanned aircraft development based on artificial intelligence and 5G and 6G wireless communications.

Another possibility is cooperation in the field of advanced display. These days, aircraft manufacturers and airlines are focusing on advanced display panels such as OLED for the purpose of component weight reduction and interior design improvement.

The fact that Samsung Electronics subsidiary Harman is expanding its telematics business is another reason why the synergy of Samsung Electronics and Boeing is expected to increase. Telematics is to interconnect means of transportation and external information centers so that various types of information and services can be exchanged for location tracking, remote diagnosis, etc.
