LG Electronics announced on Oct. 6 that it has recently launched webOS Hub, an upgraded version of the webOS platform which is provided to external TV companies.

The company expanded popular content such as cloud games and over-the-top (OTT) services, improved ease of use, and introduced the industry’s first OLED TV-only platform.

WebOS Hub is newly loaded with cloud game services. Users of webOS-based TVs from other TV manufacturers as well as LG Smart TVs can enjoy various games without purchasing separate devices. In addition to current OTT services by Netflix, Prime Video and Disney Plus, it is loaded other OTT services such as Paramount+ and FuboTV. However, provided content may differ country by country.

LG Electronics plans to further accelerate the creation of webOS ecosystems by continuously upgrading content supported by webOS Hub. To this end, the Korean TV giant is collaborating with more than 1,000 content providers (CPs) around the world, providing content and broadcasting certifications and various solutions that platform purchasers need as a package.

WebOS Hub offers additional features such as content recommendations based on viewing histories, artificial intelligence ThinQ voice recognition, and a home dashboard to control LG home appliances. It can also receive software updates from LG Electronics.

The company has been supplying WebOS as a software package since last year. The number of brands that selected webOS as their smart TV platform soared from 20 in 2021 to more than 200 in 2022. WebOS-powered TVs have advantages such as the ease of use, intuitive UI and excellent openness of an artificial intelligence TV remote controller.
