In a bid to grow into a top global leader by 2025, Korea Western Power Co. (KOWEPO) is striving to lay a foundation by constructing a combined cycle power plant in Dongducheon, a wind power generator in Hwasun, and units 9 and 10 of the Taean Thermal Power Plants.

In particular, its aim for external growth is to have competitive “DNA,” including technology keeping ahead of other competitors, a high level of competence, and an efficient management system.

In the recent event to celebrate the 14th anniversary of the company, KOWEPO President and CEO Cho In-kook said, “The target figure of external growth, which was suggested in the Vision 2025 of Hope last year, will be a milestone to grow further. The successful completion of the combined cycle power plant in Dongducheon and the wind power generator in Hwasun this year, the smooth construction of units 9 and 10 of the Taean Thermal Power Plants, and an integrated gasification combined cycle plant, and the successful start of the operation and maintenance program for the Sumsel 5 coal-fired power plant in Indonesia will become the foundations.”

He also said, “When the company was established at first, the assets and the sales were less than 3 trillion [US$2.76 billion] and 1.5 trillion won [US$1.38 billion], and it had a capacity of only 6 million kilowatts. Now, 14 years later, the assets and the sales reach 8 trillion won [US$7.35 billion] and 5 trillion won [US$4.59 billion]. Also, its capacity amounts to nearly 10 million kilowatts. It means that the KOWEPO has made remarkable quantitative growth.”

Cho added, “Innovation is the root of such competitiveness. Please imprint the competitive DNA on your mind by constantly innovating yourself with confidence, enthusiasm and effort.”
