South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who attended the funeral of the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, stressed on Sept. 28 the importance of bilateral cooperation between South Korea and Japan in global supply chains such as the U.S.-led Chip 4 alliance.

“Japan is leading the global semiconductor material industry and it is already well known that South Korea’s semiconductor sector is highly reliant on Japanese supply chains in the industry,” he said at a meeting with reporters in Tokyo. “The two countries need to work more closely together with global supply chain and geopolitical conditions fluctuating,” he added.

The South Korean prime minister had a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace, for 25 minutes. According to the former, the latter remarked that the two governments should expand their cooperation regarding various issues.

When it comes to the issue of compensation for forced labor victims, the two prime ministers asked the foreign ministers of both states to find a reasonable solution together.
