U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris met with South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in Tokyo on Sept. 27. She said that the U.S. government is well aware of South Korea’s concerns over the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act on electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, and the two governments will continue to discuss the matter.

In addition, they reconfirmed that they will keep working together in the interest of financial market stability and for minimization of the North Korean nuclear threat. They also agreed to continue with their cooperation in the space industry. South Korea recently signed the Artemis Accords and the vice president is also the chair of the U.S. National Space Council.

When it comes to foreign exchange market stabilization measures, they discussed broad and general principles without mentioning specifics such as a currency swap agreement.
