HL Mando, a HL Group affiliate specializing in electric vehicle (EV) and autonomous driving solutions, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Argus, an Israeli cybersecurity company, to collaborate in automotive cybersecurity.

The signing ceremony was held at the HL Mando's Pangyo Global R&D Center on Sept. 19 with the attendance of HL Mando CEO Cho Seong-hyun, Argus CEO Ronen Smoly and other officials from the two companies.

HL Mando's main products are automotive electrification parts. These include parts for steering wheels and brakes. In the field of vehicle chassis electrification, especially the autonomous driving functions of steering and braking systems where active safety functions are implemented, signals are exchanged over a vehicle network. Direct and indirect communications with drivers mainly run through smart devices.

Software technology that blocks security threats such as hacking attacks in advance is also a key task. HL Mando plans to build its own cyber hacking monitoring system in collaboration with Argus. The Israeli company's advanced defense technology will be applied. Cho Seong-hyeon, CEO of HL Mando, will lead the way while HL Mando's software-related organizations will be in charge of the work. Affiliates such as HL Clemove, a company specializing in autonomous driving cognitive technology, will also participate in this project.

HL Mando plans to promote the European cybersecurity certification process through technical cooperation with Argus. The WP.29 vehicle cybersecurity regulations have become mandatory for new vehicles in Europe since July. From July 2024, all vehicles in Europe will be subject to the regulations. WP.29 is a forum for harmonization of vehicle regulations set up under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

Argus is the global No. 1 company in mobility security. It was founded in 2014 with the vision of protecting all vehicles from cyberattacks. It has earned respect for its technological leadership from global automakers by providing the most comprehensive vehicle security solutions. Argus is headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel.
