3 Korean Companies Account for 23% of Global Market in 1H22

Market research firm SNE Research announced on Sept. 13 that CATL posted sales of US$13 billion in the first half of this year, when those of LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI and SK On were US$5.84 billion, US$2.98 billion and US$2.07 billion, respectively.

The three South Korean EV battery manufacturers came in second, fourth and sixth and they accounted for 23 percent of the global EV battery market that grew to US$47.23 billion in the first half. Samsung SDI’s average battery pack selling price was US$183 per kWh and those of LG Energy Solution and SK On were US$150 and US$119.

BYD came in third with sales of US$3.836 billion and Panasonic came in fifth with US$2.15 billion. Gotion High-Tech, CALB, EVE and Svolt Energy Technology are the other top 10 companies.

In the first half, 268.7 GWh of EV batteries were sold worldwide. CATL’s sales volume amounted to 104 GWh, followed by LG Energy Solution (38.9 GWh), BYD (28.7 GWh), Panasonic (19.2 GWh), SK On (17.4 GWh) and Samsung SDI (16.3 GWh).
