Texas-based NPE Atlas Global Technologies filed a patent infringement suit against Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electronics America on Aug. 9.

According to Atlas, Samsung infringed on its patent rights pertaining to eight Wi-Fi-related patents and used the patents for no less than 458 mobile product models including Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, 30 tablet PC models including Galaxy Tab S7+, and five Internet TV models including Neo QLED 8K.

Atlas is a subsidiary of Acacia Research, a Nasdaq-listed non-practicing entity. According to their letter of complaint, Atlas purchased the eight patents from Newracom early this year. Newracom is a fully-owned subsidiary of Newratek, which was founded in 2014.

According to industry sources, Newracom is one of the global top five, along with Qualcomm, Intel, Huawei and Broadcom, in the field of Wi-Fi 6 standard essential patents. Samsung Electronics is planning to respond to the claim after checking the complaint.
