Samsung Electronics Executives Likely to Be Probed

The Korea Fair Trade Commission is expected to request the prosecution to investigate Samsung Electronics president Jung Hyun-ho and three more executives with regard to the allegations that Samsung Group provided unfair assistance for Samsung Welstory.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission is planning to hold a meeting on May 26 to decide whether to accuse Samsung Electronics president Jung Hyun-ho and three more executives with regard to the allegations that Samsung Group provided unfair assistance for Samsung Welstory.

The commission notified the group of the accusation plan in late January this year. According to the commission, the former and current executives provided the illegal assistance via the task force in the group that replaced its Future Strategy Office in 2017.

The commission is currently investigating the case on the premise that Samsung Group has assisted Samsung Welstory since 2018. Samsung Welstory is a fully-owned subsidiary of Samsung C&T, in which Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong is the largest shareholder. Samsung Welstory runs cafeterias in Samsung Group.
