In order to expand exports of finished medicines and its consignment businesses, Hanmi Pharmaceutical will construct a “global smart plant” with an annual production capacity of 10 billion pills.

The company will invest 120 billion won (US$108.6 million) to build an additional smart plant in the the Paltan Plant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, which is the production base of finished products. The total area will be 36,523 m2, with 8 floors aboveground and a basement.

The plant will be completed by July 2016, by Samsung Engineering.

Placed in an additional construction site at the existing Paltan Plant, the global smart plant will use an advanced system that satisfies the requirements of the current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) in advanced countries, including the U.S.

Once the plant is completed, Hanmi Paltan Complex will be the nation’s largest production complex for medicines, with a total area of 77,027 square meters and an annual production capacity of 12 billion pills, including existing production facilities.

In particular, the plant has introduced the latest continuous process system and the system to prevent cross contamination.

Through the construction of the smart plant, Hanmi Pharmaceutical is planning to not only manufacture the finished products for export, which is on the rise, but also expand consignment businesses for global pharmaceutical companies.

Vice President. Woo Jong-Soo said, “The global smart plant will be established, aiming to fully automate from production to distribution.”
