Linking NPP Projects to Key Industries

Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant in the Czech Republic

The South Korean government launched a nuclear power plant export task force on Aug. 18, announcing that South Korea’s overseas nuclear power development projects would be linked to its key industries including automotive, semiconductor and EV battery so that the projects can be more customized and effective.

According to the task force, the Czech Republic, Poland, the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia are pursuing cooperation with South Korea in this field at this moment and the task force is working on different strategies to win upcoming projects there.

The task force consists of nine ministries, including National Defense, Economy and Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Land, Infrastructure and Transport, private-sector enterprises and experts, and the 10 public institutions including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Export-Import Bank of Korea, and Korea Electric Power Corporation. The head of the task force is Trade, Industry and Energy Minister Lee Chang-yang.

The task force’s plans include making the diplomatic offices in the Czech Republic, Poland, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the Philippines and Kazakhstan in charge of nuclear power plant export assistance for closer networking and more effective information collection. In addition, the task force is planning to open a center to provide more effective trade and financial services for nuclear power plant exporters.
