Highest in 3 Years

Thanks to the bullish KOSDAQ market and the active KOSPI market, the daily average trading value in March recorded the highest in three years.

According to the Korea Exchange (KRX) on March 29, the daily average trading value of the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets from March 2 to 27 amounted to 8.1 trillion won (US$7.32 billion), which is the highest since it recorded 9.8 trillion won (US$8.85 billion) in Feb. 2012. Also, it is the first time to surpass 8 trillion won (US$7.23 billion) since Feb. 2012 as well.

This is largely because the KOSDAQ market has become strong from the beginning of this year, and the KOSPI index has also crossed the 2,000 level from the beginning of March, showing signs of recovery.

Therefore, the trade cost of the KOSPI market showed a remarkable increase in March. The daily average trading value of the KOSPI market totaled 5.1 trillion won (US$4.61 billion), which is the highest since it recorded 5.2 trillion won (US$4.7 billion) in Sept. 2012. The figure stood at 3.9 trillion won (US$3.52 billion) in December last year and increased to 4.4 trillion won (US$3.98 billion) in January and 4.5 trillion won (US$4.07 billion) in February this year.

The KOSDAQ market has been on the rise for four months since December last year. The figure stood at 2.1 trillion won (US$1.9 billion) in December last year and increased to 2.8 trillion won (US$2.53 billion) in January and 3 trillion won (US$2.71 billion) in February. Also, it recorded 3.0274 trillion won (US$2.74 billion) in March. It is the first time it has exceeded 3 trillion won (US$2.71 billion) since it reached 3.2 trillion won (US$2.89 billion) in Dec. 2011.
