Increasing Capitalization

 

The market capitalization in the KOSDAQ market has increased more than 30 trillion won (US$27.15 billion) this year. In particular, the market price in the pharmaceutical sector alone grew about 7.5 trillion won (US$6.79 billion). 

According to Korea Exchange (KRX) on March 26, the market capitalization of the KOSDAQ amounted to 173.7 trillion won (US$157.19 billion) on March 25, an increase of 30.6 trillion won (US$27.69 billion) from 143.1 trillion won (US$129.5 billion) at the end of last year. 

The market capitalization in the pharmaceutical sector grew to 22.3733 trillion won (US$20.25 billion) on March 24, an increase of 7.4283 trillion won (US$6.72 billion) from 14.945 trillion won (US$13.52 billion) at the end of last year.

In terms of the rate of increase, minor businesses generally have shown remarkable increases. However, the market capitalization of the pharmaceutical sector has increased by 49.7 percent this year, even though it is a relatively major business in the market. 

Health-related items, including bio and pharmaceutical sectors, are showing a clear upward trend not only in the KOSDAQ market but also in the global major stock markets.

Some express concerns over overheating. However, the prevailing forecast is that it will remain strong for a while.

Also, the paper and lumber business has shown a considerable increase in market capitalization with 81.8 percent, along with the textile and clothing sector with 55.6 percent. IT parts and semiconductor businesses have recorded 2.5463 trillion won (US$2.3 billion) and 2.0195 trillion won (US$1.83 billion) in market capitalization, seeing rapid growth.
