The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on March 17 that it is holding public hearings for free trade agreements with Central America and Ecuador on April 1 at the COEX Convention Center.

At present, six Central American countries – Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama – have a high level of economic integration based on the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA).

After the hearings, the ministry is going to make preparations for the agreements based on the results of the hearings, and in compliance with the Act on Governing Procedures of Conclusion and Implementation of Trade Treaties. Then, deliberation at economic ministerial meetings and a report to the National Assembly follow, before the declaration of the start of the negotiations with other parties.
