Hyundai Motor Group Ranked 5th

BYD became the No. 1 player in the EV market by selling 647,000 units in the first half of this year.

Market research firm SNE Research announced on July 18 that a total of 4.285 million BEVs and PHEVs were sold worldwide in the first half of this year, up 63 percent from a year ago.

The global sales volume includes 2.474 million in China, up 121 percent. In North America, the volume increased 59 percent year on year to 0.58 million. The growth of the European market stood at 5 percent in the wake of the war in Ukraine.

The electric passenger car market grew 62 percent to 4.135 million. The electric bus and truck markets grew 71 percent to 49,000 and 74 percent to 101,000, respectively.

BYD sold 647,000, up 323 percent year on year. The runner-up is Tesla (575,000). The rest of the top five are SAIC (370,000), Volkswagen (316,000) and Hyundai Motor Group (248,000). The group’s sales volume increased 75 percent from a year ago.
