Hyundai Motor unveiled its next-generation SUV, the “All-New Tucson,” on March 17.

The company released a third-generation model in six years after it released the Tucson ix in 2009, following the first generation Tucson in 2004. It is said that the latest technologies are integrated into the model, including a refined exterior design, improved driving efficiency, and reinforced safety system.

With the concept of a “youthful, dynamic SUV,” the All-New Tucson is the outcome of a 44-month-long development project. The model went through continuous performance tests at the Nurburgring Circuit in Germany, which is known to be the most severe test environment in the world.

The SUV comes with an R2.0-liter diesel engine that meets the Euro 6 emissions standards, along with a downsized U2 1.7 diesel.

The R2.0 diesel engine has secured top-class power performance and fuel efficiency, producing a maximum of 186 horsepower and 41 kilogram-meters of torque. It fuel efficiency is 14.4 kilometers per liter. Also, the U2 1.7 diesel engine flaunts excellent performance, producing a maximum of 141 horsepower and 34.7 kilogram-meters of torque, while its fuel efficiency is 15.6 kilometers per liter.

In particular, the seven-speed double-clutch transmission in the U2 1.7 diesel engine model has improved shift speed and fuel efficiency, achieving both dynamic gearing, and high efficiency.

Moreover, the company said that the All-New Tucson has received the highest ratings on crash safety assessments conducted in major areas in the world, including Korea,North America, and Europe.

Starting with the launch in Korea this month, the SUV will be available in the global market, including Europe and the U.S., in the second half of this year. Hyundai Motor aims to sell 42,000 units of the Tucson this year in the domestic market. From next year, it will target selling a total of 570,000 units of the Tucson - an annual average of 45,000 and 525,000 units at home and abroad. Beginning from March 4, the company said that it has already received 5,800 pre-orders for the vehicle as of March 16.

Hyundai Motor Vice President Kwak Jin said, “Catching up with the high performance, high fuel efficiency and eco-friendly trend, the All-New Tucson will bring a new sensation not only in the domestic but also in the global SUV markets.”
