Taihan Electric Wire said on February 4 that it had won two ultra high-voltage power cable turnkey projects – a 230kV power cable worth US$34 million and a 66kV one worth US$7 million – in Singapore.

Under the contract for the two projects, awarded by Singapore PowerGrid (SPPG), the Korean firm will replace old underground transmission lines and supply cables to be put into new construction project on a turnkey basis.

With more investments being made into social infrastructure such as electricity, Singapore is witnessing a rising demand for ultra high voltage power cables recently to replace outdated underground transmission lines and to expand electricity facilities.

One company official said, “We got off to a good start this year by successfully obtaining an order worth nearly US$100 million in Saudi Arabia, followed by a series of large-scale projects in Singapore.
