Growing Polarization

 

In the market share of browsers which total desktops and mobiles, Apple Safari won third place and Mozilla Firefox fourth.

According to statistics from the U.S.-based IT media Computerworld on March 7, Firefox's market share last month was 9.5 percent, down 3.4 percent from July, ranking fourth among major browsers.

Google (including Android browser and Chrome) maintained second place with a 27.6 percent share, up 5 percent from last July. Although Safari dropped 0.5 percent with 11.8 percent, it went up to third place. Microsoft's Internet Explorer stayed at the first place with 47 percent of market share, dominating the desktop market.

Also, according to the statistics of web analysis company Netapplications, Apple Safari ranked first with 43.21 percent in February’s mobile browser market, followed by Google chrome with 26.59 percent, Google Android browser with 14.95 percent, Opera Mini with 7.96 percent, MS IE with 2.63 percent, and Firefox with 0.67 percent.

By desktop browser, Internet Explorer captured first place with 57.38 percent, followed by Google Chrome with 24.69 percent, Firefox with 11.6 percent, Safari with 4.84 percent, Opera with 1.9 percent, and the Android browser with 0.02 percent.

The market share of Firefox showed a downturn after reaching its peak in April 2010 with 25.1 percent. It is still plummeting, decreasing more than a third in the last 12 months.
