MIMO Research Alleges Samsung Infringed on Its Wireless Patents
An American wireless communication solution company has sued Samsung Electronics Co. and Samsung Electronics America, alleging that the defendants infringed on its patents in producing wireless devices, including the Galaxy S21 series.
MIMO Research filed a complaint with the Eastern District Court in Texas of the United States on June 10 (local time).
The plaintiff claimed that Samsung Electronics infringed on five of its patents on wireless communications. The patents in question relate to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication devices, dual-mode ultra-wideband and wireless local area network communications, and other methods of wireless communication.
In particular, MIMO Research asserted that Samsung “specifically intended and was aware that the normal and customary use of the accused products” would infringe on the patents-in-suit. It specifically mentioned the Galaxy S21 5G, the Galaxy S21 5G Plus and the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G as the models to which its patented technologies were applied. It claimed that Samsung infringed on its patents by commercializing, marketing, selling, distributing, testing, and servicing the cited products.
MIMI Research's complaint cites five counts of infringement. It is seeking favorable judgment on each count of infringement, damages, judgment that the infringement was “willful, wanton, malicious, bad-faith and deliberate.”
