The brand value of Samsung ranks 2nd in the world this year again. 

According to the “Global 500 Annual Report 2015” released by the British market research firm Brand Finance last month, Samsung’s brand value amounted to US$81.72 billion (89.9 trillion won), a 4 percent increase from last year, and was the second highest in the world. 

The highest brand value in the world turned out to be Apple, worth US$128.3 billion (141.16 trillion won). The figure increased by US$23 million (25.3 billion won) from last year, and is 57 percent higher than that of Samsung. 

The two rivals were followed by Google (US$76.68 billion or 83.37 trillion won), Microsoft (US$67.06 billion or 73.78 trillion won), and Verizon (US$59.84 billion or 65.84 trillion won). The top 10 companies were mostly information technology or communications businesses. Eight of them were American companies, while one was Korean and another Chinese. 

Among other Korean companies besides Samsung, Hyundai came in 49th, LG 98th, SK 114th, Shinhan Financial Group 184th, Kia Motors 261st, KT 289th, KB Financial Group 344th, CJ 351st, Lotte 370th, Korea Electric Power Corporation 394th, Korea Gas Corporation 452nd, and GS 467th in the top 500 brands.
