Korea National Railway announced on May 31 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (PT MRT Jakarta) for cooperation in the 4th phase of the MRT project in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

Korea National Railway has formed a consortium with Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corp. (KIND) and Samsung C&T’s Construction Division to cooperate in the planning, construction, operation and financing of the MRT project in Jakarta.

The 4th phase of the Jakarta MRT project involves the construction of a 12-km MRT section from Fatmawati to Taman Mini in Jakarta. The section will have 10 stations and one vehicle depot and is expected to cost about 1.5 trillion won.

Next month, Korea National Railway will brief officials of the Jakarta government on the results of a feasibility study on the project in June and step up efforts to finally win the project.
