Tata Daewoo promotes its premium truck “Prima” to cement its position as a global truck maker

LAUNCHED in 2004 as a 100-percent subsidiary of Tata Motors, Tata Daewoo is a heavy and medium-duty truck maker with its values set on customer focus, integrity, passion for excellence and innovation and corporate social responsibility. Based on those core values, about 1,300 employees of Tata Daewoo are putting their utmost efforts into taking challenges and seeking innovation to ensure that the company puts customers first and ever expands its international presence. Tata Motors, the parent company of Tata Daewoo, is a major subsidiary of the Tata Group in India with a 140-year-long history.

Tata Motors is a full-range automobile manufacturer with a product line ranging from passenger cars to commercial vehicles and buses. As a market leader in India, Tata Motors is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy to move beyond the Indian market and grow into a leader in the global market. In the process, Tata Daewoo is expected to play a pivotal role in leading the global strategy of Tata Motors.

The launching ceremony of Tata Daewoo’s premium truck “Prima” was held at COEX in Seoul in the middle of September. Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group and other senior executives attended the function along with 500 guests. Five models of medium and heavy commercial vehicles; a 6x2 tractor, 6x4 tractor, 25T cargo, 25.5T dump and 5T cargo were presented at the launching ceremony. Sales of these vehicles started in October.

Tata Daewoo plans to make its premium truck “Prima” a stepping stone for the company to consolidate its position as a global truck maker. Over the past five years, around KRW 100 billion has been spent in the development of “Prima.” Furthermore, customers’ requirements and the market trend were aggressively studied and incorporated from the early stages of development.

Tata Daewoo’s Premium Truck “Prima” is fitted with a 500-hp engine, the highest in Korea, and is equipped with a multi-purpose cab and conveniences, with all cutting-edge technologies applied. “Prima” also provides not only comfort thanks to its spacious interior, but also top-class safety, superb ergonomics and excellent durability as well as aerodynamic style, and a grand and sophisticated look. It is expected that Tata Daewoo’s premium truck “Prima” will become recognized by customers as one of the best trucks on the market.

In his congratulatory address, Ratan Tata said that Tata Motors and Tata Daewoo’s joint development of the “Prima” truck range was a significant event and that Tata Daewoo would be able to make inroads into the world market. He thanked Chae, Kwang-ok, President of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, and other members of the company for their efforts in launching ‘Prima’. He also wished ‘Prima’ great success in the global market.

“Tata Daewoo premium truck ‘Prima’ has finally come into the world after more than 100 different cabs were produced and tested to ensure a world-class cab design. In addition, its chassis and all parts and components were verified for more than two years, and the vehicle driven for more than 2 million Km, the equivalent to traveling 50 times around the Earth,” he added.

“With the launch of Tata Daewoo’s premium truck ‘Prima’, I am sure that the company will secure a leading position in the industry.” Chae Kwang-ok, President of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, said in his opening address.

Telang, CEO of Tata Motors, Chae Kwangok, President & CEO of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, His Excellency Skand Ranjan Tayal, Indian ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Kang Bong-kyun, a member of the National Assembly, and Cho Hwan-eik, President & CEO of Korea Trade- Investment Promotion Agency.
