Shinhan Financial Group announced on May 8 that British Minister for Pacific and the Environment Lord Zac Goldsmith and British Ambassador to South Korea Colin Crooks visited itself on May 6 and they discussed the role of private financial companies in dealing with climate and biodiversity issues.

At the meeting, Shinhan Financial Group chairman Cho Yong-byoung shared the group’s environmental protection efforts with them, including its carbon neutrality strategy called Zero Carbon Drive and its activities in the leadership committee of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative.

The minister said that he was deeply impressed by the group’s leading role in climate change response and eco-friendly finance expansion, adding that he is anticipating more global financial support in the interest of biodiversity.

“We are searching for what we can do for the sake of biodiversity as a member of the Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures and so on,” the chairman said, adding, “At the same time, we are focusing on measures such as forest preservation, which can be of help for carbon neutrality and biodiversity alike.”
