Samsung's Share Rises to 8-year High of 28%

Samsung Electronics' share of the U.S. smartphone market rose to an eight-year high of 28 percent in the first quarter of 2022.

In the first quarter of 2022, Samsung Electronics accounted for 28 percent of the U.S. smartphone market, the highest in eight years, considerably narrowing its market share gap with Apple.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple came in first at 47 percent. Motorola took third place with 12 percent, followed by TCL with 3 percent and OnePlus and Google with 2 percent each.

Compared to the same period of 2021, Apple’s market share fell by 7 percentage points. On the other hand, Samsung's share increased by 3 percentage points. As a result, the market share gap between the two companies narrowed from 29 percentage points in the first quarter of 2021 to 19 percentage points.

Counterpoint Research said strong sales of the Galaxy S22 series and the mid-range Galaxy A series contributed to the increase in Samsung’s market share.

Motorola filled the vacuum created by LG Electronics, which withdrew from the smartphone business, doubling its market share compared to the same period of 2021.
