Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S22 Ultra has been found to be the fastest 5G smartphone in North America.

According to Ookla, which operates Internet speed test site "Speedtest," the Galaxy S22 Ultra showed an average 5G download speed of 116.33Mbps, the fastest among major smartphones sold in the United States in the first quarter of 2022.

Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Z Fold 3 came in second with 100.83 Mbps and the Galaxy S21 Ultra fifth with 91.26 Mbps. Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro took third and fourth place with 99.47 Mbps and 97.52 Mbps, respectively.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra logged an average 5G download speed of 153.71 Mbps in Canada. The second place was taken by the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 128.87 Mbps. The Galaxy S21 Plus stood third with 118 Mbps, while the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro came in fourth and fifth with 116.9 Mbps and 115.67 Mbps, respectively.

Overseas IT media outlets attributed the result to the superior modem performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset used for the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The modem in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the Snapdragon X65 5G (X65), and the modem for the iPhone 13 is Qualcomm’s previous generation product, the Snapdragon X60 5G (X60).
