Ildong Pharmaceutical has recently acquired a U.S. patent on the method for the production of ultra-high molecular weight hyaluronic acid using fermentation.
The company has received the patent in South Korea in 2013 and in Europe early this year. With the U.S. patent, Ildong Pharmaceutical can definitively say that it is globally recognized for its world-class technology in the hyaluronic acid field.
This technology is a method for manufacturing ultra-high molecular weight hyaluronic acid of 6 million Da or more by fermenting a strain of ID9103 developed by Ildong Research Laboratories. In order to produce ultra-high molecular weight hyaluronic acid using the fermentation of microorganisms, a high level of fermentation and refining technologies is required. Therefore, it is rare to see development cases even in the wild.
In particular, the manufacturing method is expected to make up for the shortcomings of existing low molecular weight hyaluronic acid.
Ildong Pharmaceutical expects that the registration of this patent in the U.S. will have beneficial effects on the exploitation of overseas raw materials market. So, the company is planning to apply for patents in Europe, Japan, China, and Brazil. Also, the company will aggressively target the markets of medicines, medical devices, cosmetics, and food at home and abroad.
